Fun Shakes

~ Milk- n - Shake ~

Making yummy lip smacking shakes is a lot

of fun . Calcium n nutrient loaded recipes like

milkshakes & smoothies are a great way to get

our lil ones cooking . Besides having great fun

in the kitchen n learning the initial lessons of

healthy cooking they 'l definately love to relish

their wonderful creations too :) :) :)

Surely gives we mommies a reason to sit

back n relax (pondering over the amount of

nutrients the lil ones just had )

Mango Funshake

Mango milkshake - topped with Watermelon

balls (for eyes ), cucumber n cheerios / honey

loops ( for nose) , shoestring licorice or jelly

sticks for smiley mouth .

What do u call a shake that marks the

celebration at a close friend's blog ????

Ha Ha !!! I call it Friend Shake indeed ....

These days my lil one is deeply in love with her

new cuddle toy - the furry little orange nosed monster

Elmo from the Sesame Street (aka Gali Gali Sim Sim).

Elmo- the fire engine red dynamo with positive

attitude & infectious giggle is one of her favorite

cartoon characters, so while downloading some

Sesame Street coloring pages , a foody rather fruity

idea clicked my mind n I decided to treat her

on some Elmo Fruitoon too ................

Artsy Crafty Challenge ( July'10)

Kids Crafts esp Crafts made from trash

are a great way to teach our tiny tots

about recycling and re-using. Sending our

entry Junk Ceramic planter for Artsy crafty

Challenge at Mindful meanderings .

Junk Ceramic planter

( While walking down the road a couple of days back ,

a junk ceramic insulator ( the brown one which is widely

used on electric poles) lying at a junk shop caught my

attention .I somehow found it so attractive that I got it home

unaware of how we will transform this mundane object into an

object d' art After removing all the dirt n grime i planted

a small creeper in it. Aloha !!!! My recycled planter was ready,

with some stones arranged around it it simply adorns my terrace !)

Artsy - Crafty Challenge ( May 2010 )

@ Mindful Meanderings

Sending our Birdy cups for the May Artsy Crafty

Contest .Couple of months ago while browsing the net

for party ideas I came across some party animal faced

tumblers . Truly admire the brain behind the fabulous

object d' art !!!!!!!Although this idea is all over the net

yet not even a single site tells the name of the creator

to appreciate his/her design.

Being inspired by these designs my lil one &

I create these beaky cups ..........

Mad about Blues

~ Mad about Blues ~

James Cameron's completely immersive 3-D sci fi

epic- Avatar with all its blue aliens was so much liked by

my little one that for some days her girly favorite Pink

color mania had changed into a sudden blue !!! "Mama now

my favorite color is blue .. " Blue dress , blue colors, blue

hanky ,blue bedcover my lil one suddenly wanted every

thing blue. I agreed with her blue fever but her request

for blue food really left me in a fix. I jus knew about

blueberries as something naturally blue but then

these are not available in India .. Blue jellies , blue

syrups , blue cakes .... Google showed a list of some

whacky blue things readily available in the market ...

but then they wern't available here:( Finally blue

squash , mint candies n blue M&Ms were the only

things i could get ... Thank God her blue mania

felt contented with these .......& off went her blue

color fever in a couple of days ...

Yesterday while helping my nephew with his science

project I came to know abt the Cabbage juice as natural

pH indicator ( red cabbage when shredded n boiled turns

the water blue !!! - adding lemon juice makes it turn

pink while addition of baking soda darkens its color)

After a lot of googling I was eager to incorporate this

into my food experiments .....(ahh what fun we had

dipping the eggs ,radish ,white onions in this concoction

jus wished I had known it before... :) :) :)

The Pandora Rice

( or should i call it The Avatar Rice )

Rice cooked in red cabbage water n veggies .

( The cabbage water doesn't add much of a flavor to the rice

so feel free to experiment with your own flavorings n spices )

The Magic Eggs

Eggs dipped in red cabbage water ( for blue shade ).

Add few drops of lime juice to the cabbage water

& immerse the eggs for pink color ones.

The Babushka Piggy Bank

Sending our paper mache Russian Doll (babushka)

piggy bank for the Apr Artsy Crafty Contest . Papermache

is a great craft for all ages . Although its very simple to make

but owing to tons of pasting becomes a little messy at times .

Blow a large ballon , once knotted or tied try to create a

basic babushka shape by pressing the ballon in the centre .

Stick a jam bottle lid on the base of the ballon for a stable

standing of the project . Mix 3 tbsp fevicol with a cup of water,

tear lots of newspapers into small pieces , dip into this solution

n stick on the ballon ( say 4-5 layers ). Let it dry overnight.

Now gently cut a coin size slot on the top . Color & decorate .

Finally coat a layer of clear varnish to protect the colors .

( Suitable for kids 4 yrs + under adult supervision )

Love is in the air !! With Valentine's Day just around ,

what could be better than to show our endless love

towards our little ones ( n their daddy too.. ) by

preparing cute heart shape foods.

Of course, the quickest way to heart is through

the stomach n these cute little fun treats will

surely leave them asking for more !!!!

The Artsy - Craftsy Challenge @ Mindful - Meanderings

Kids crafts esp the Hand, foot n finger prints are a great way

to capture a moment of childhood . Recently

Shruti @ Mindful - Meanderings had a wonderful contest in

which the kiddos had to turn their cute lil handprints to

wonderful works of art .Do check out the creations from budding

lil artists at her blog . My daughter Nandika's creation -

'The Handprint Fishes' won a second prize . Thanks to the

jury n the voters for liking her creations !!
